The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s Teatro Digitale programme on operaroma.tv gets rich of four new titles staged by the students of the Scuola di Danza: La Bayadère Divertissement by Ofelia Gonzalez and Pablo Moret (2016), Concerto in Oro by Alessandro Bigonzetti (2016), Sogno di una notte di mezza estate by Alessandra Delle Monache (2014) e Turnpike by Mauro Bigonzetti (2019). They are shows of the last years that will be streamed free of charge on the theater’s YouTube official channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/operaroma
Laura Comi – a former principal dancer with the company of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and now the head of the Scuola di Danza – says: «The titles have been chosen from the vast repertoire produced in recent years. The titles are very different from musical, technical, stylistic, and scenic points of view. I believe that taking part in the Teatro Digitale initiative is an important opportunity to make the work we do at the Scuola di Danza of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma known to a new audience. This is why the four ballets in the programme involve dancers of all ages, from the youngest to the oldest. In the professional training of our students, performances are a fundamental part. The study of technique that they practice and refine every day in the dance studio is not an end in itself, but at the service of artistic interpretation. Being on stage is an exciting goal that our students achieve together with their teachers».
Sunday 7 March at 8.00 p.m. will be streamed free of charge La Bayadère Divertissement with music by Ludwig Minkus and choreography by Ofelia Gonzalez and Pablo Moret (two of the school’s teachers). It is a suite of the most well-known dances from Petipa’s ballet, performed by the students of the Scuola di Danza of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, mainly by students of the final years, but it involves also a little group of younger dancers. It was created for their 2016 Summer Performance at the Rome’s opera house, Teatro Costanzi.
After La Bayadère Divertissement comes Concerto in Oro with music by Franz Schubert and choreography by Alessandro Bigonzetti (teacher of the school). It will be streamed free of charge on Sunday 11 April at 8.00 p.m.. It was created for the 2016 Summer Performance at Rome’s opera house, Teatro Costanzi, and it involves the whole school, all the students from the youngest to the oldest.
On Sunday 2 May at 8.00 p.m. there will be the chance to see again Alessandra Delle Monache’s Sogno di una note di mezza estate created in 2014 on Felix Mendelssohn’s music and staged at the Teatro Nazionale. Some of the dancers become actors for the first time. Infact Delle Monache signs the choreography and even the direction of this ballet in one act. The students of the final years are engaged in, ensemble, solo, and difficult and unusual pas de deux, with a strong attention on the interpretation.
The last title will be streamed free of charge on Sunday 6 June at 8.00 p.m.:Mauro Bigonzetti’s Turnpike on music by Johann Sebastian Bach. It was created in 1991. Thanks to the choreographer’s courtesy it was performed again in 2019 at the Teatro Costanzi by the students of the Scuola di Danza of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
